MIABC Board Elections – Positions Up for Election in 2026

Eligible individuals are invited to express interest in serving on the MIABC’s Board of Directors. Five (5) positions will be up for election, which will take place electronically in advance of the MIABC’s 39th Annual General Meeting in Vancouver in September 2026 in conjunction with the UBCM Convention.

Positions Up for Election

The following positions will be up for election. Group representative positions correspond to member population categories as outlined below:

  • Group A Representative – members with populations of up to 2,000
  • Group B Representative – members with populations of 2,001–5,000
  • Group C Representative – members with populations of 5,001–25,000
  • Group D Representative – members with populations of 25,000 or greater
  • Regional District Representative

Serving on the MIABC’s Board offers an opportunity to bring your experience to the governance of the MIABC and support the delivery of insurance and risk management services the MIABC provides to BC local governments through our member-owned, reciprocal pooling model.

Eligibility Requirements

As outlined in Article 3.04 of the Reciprocal Insurance Exchange Agreement (RIEA), individuals interested in serving on the MIABC Board must:

  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Not have been found by a court in Canada or elsewhere to be of unsound mind
  • Not have bankrupt status
  • Be a councillor, mayor, board member, director, officer, or employee of a Subscriber, provided that no other individual from that same Subscriber currently serves on the MIABC Board
  • Consent to act as a Board member

In addition, eligible individuals must have at least two years of experience in one of the following areas:

  • Accounting, finance, or local government purchasing
  • The insurance industry
  • Local government risk management or an enterprise risk management program
  • Governance experience in a regulated or publicly traded entity

How to Express Interest
