MIA's 20th Anniversary/ Newest Member
There is no better way for the MIA to start its 20th Anniversary celebration than by increasing it membership. We are pleased to welcome the City of Duncan, who rejoin the Association February 1st, bring our membership to 163. The MIA works hard to be the best civic liability insurance provider in B.C. We hope to have more local governments opt to share in our success in the coming months. Our members have been letting us know how much they have enjoyed the fruits the MIA’s financial strength. $2.4 million in dividend cheques were mailed out in December 2005. Abbotsford, Whistler, Ashcroft, Port McNeill, Hudson’s Hope, and Golden have all written to express their gratitude and pride in being part of such a thriving organization. All indications so far are that 2006 was another good year for the MIA and its members. Our auditors and actuaries are currently in the process of analysing our financial and underwriting performance. The MIA Board will be assessing the results in early March. They may well conclude that more dividends are in order for the coming year. In the meantime, we are in the process of marking our 20th Anniversary. The commemorations will be centred at the UBCM Area Association conferences, as well as the LGMA and GFOA conferences. We look forward to meeting representatives of our members at these get-togethers.
