The Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia is pleased to announce the availability of scholarship funds for its members.
This scholarship program has been established to encourage and promote the study of risk management among MIABC members. Consideration will be given to all applicants who demonstrate career goals and educational objectives including support within their organization.
Courses required to obtain an accreditation in the areas of risk management or insurance from a recognized educational institution in Canada are eligible for funding through the MIABC Risk Management Scholarship.
Candidates must demonstrate that risk management or insurance is a key function of their current position and they must provide written support from their supervisor confirming that the proposed course will assist the local government in reducing risk exposure.
Examples of Eligible Courses
CRM Program – Canadian Risk Management
There are three risk management courses required for completion towards the CRM Diploma. These courses include Risk Assessment, Risk Control, and Risk Financing. The names of these courses may differ depending on the institution.
MIABC’s Scholarship Program will also cover the cost of the Risk Management Society’s (RIMS) three day Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) workshop. Individuals who complete this workshop and already hold a CRM designation will be eligible to apply for a CRM-E designation.

CIP Program – Certified Insurance Professional
Candidates of the CIP program may be eligible to apply for MIABC’s scholarship towards courses related to risk management, subject to approval. This includes courses such as Introduction to Risk Management and Commercial Lines Insurance which is an introductory course that provides the student with an overview of how to determine the needs of an insured.
